dianes-vest Floor Loom Weaving–Introduction**

This two-day class introduces the student to four-shaft floor loom weaving. Learn to prepare the loom for weaving and produce a sampler of loom-controlled and hand-manipulated weaves. Discussions focus on terminology, reading patterns, and basic project planning.

dianes-vest Captivating Card Weaving

Explore the ancient and fascinating art of card weaving. Understand the "twisty" difference between card weaving and any other form of weaving. Learn to read threaded and turned patterns. Students will warp, thread and weave with four- hole square cards to produce woven bands.

Bring a pair of scissors and four balls of #10 crochet cotton: 1 dark, 1 light neutral and 2 bright colors. Purchase weaving supplies at first class*.

dianes-vest Kumihimo (Japanese Braiding)

Kumihimo is the Japanese art of braiding. Braids can be made in many patterns, thicknesses, and many different fibers. This beginner class will teach students how to wind a warp and put it on the maru dai (the "loom" on which braiding is done).  They will learn how to wind bobbins, follow a pattern to produce a braid, and several finishing techniques.  Several different braids will be made using the same 8 bobbins.  CHG has several maru dais which can be used in class; these will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Please indicate if you will need a guild maru dai when registering.

Novice Weekend: Point Patterns

Practice weaving from versatile point threadings, learning to weave zigzags, diamonds, textures, and more.  Then weave a scarf or table runner during this intensive weekend class. This class includes a review of dressing the loom and basic weave technique. Your practice piece may become a purse or eyeglass case. Level: Advanced Beginner. Prerequisite: Completion of “Floor Loom Weaving – Introduction” or permission of the instructor. Register by October 18.

Luxury Scarf in a Day - Weaving Introduction

Create a woven scarf in just a few hours.  This introductory class will appeal to spinners, knitters, and crocheters who are interested in learning about weaving.  Working on a simple table-top rigid heddle loom, use popular novelty yarns to weave a fashion accessory.

Playing with Paper

Paper Crafts.  Create artwork, cards, beads, trinkets, gifts, and boxes using paper and the techniques of weaving, folding, cutting, gluing, etc. 

Chair Caning

Weaving is not just for yarn anymore!  Learn the basics of cane seat weaving. In this one day class complete an oak footstool that is also just the right height for threading a loom. Select from a variety of twill patterns or create one.

Introduction to Spinning Class

Spinning your own yarn is fun, relaxing, and creative! Learn the basics of hand spinning and spin a variety of fibers using spindles and spinning wheels. Learn about fiber preparation, yarn finishing, and using handspun yarn in projects.

Novice Weekend Classes

Featuring projects done in chenille, controlled open-work, Bronson lace, color and weave effects, and overshot.
